Whether you own a Mountain Bike, Road Bike, or Unicycle, the Summerside Cycling Club is pleased to announce training rides you can participate in for the 2006 season:
Training Rides
These rides pave the way for the Club's two major events for 2006: the P.E.I. Bike Fest (July 15 - 17) and Biking for Breakfast (Aug 5). Our Training Rides can be categorized into the following ways:
- 18 Wednesday Time Trial Training Rides
Start Location: Greenfield School or Indian River Church (check detailed calendar)
Wednesdays at 6:15 p.m.
May 17 thru September 13
Time Trails (TT) are a great way to test your individual fitness level. We have two different TT courses this year. Both are short courses (12 km): one around Miscouche and the other Indian River. The environment is supportive with everyone cheering on each other to improve their time.
- 7 Saturday Road Training Rides
Start Location: Various
Saturdays at various times
May 27 thru September 16
Every second Saturday, the Club has a road training ride. The distances start off short (30 km) and grow to longer (70 km). This is because this group of riders are training for the two major cycling events planned by the club that will require the ability to bicycle a long distance in one day. As with the Saturday Endurance Rides, rides are planned to end before noon.
- 4 Saturday Crit Training Rides
Start Location: meet at Summerside Industrial Park
Saturdays at 8 a.m.
June 3 thru August 26
Four Saturdays during the year the club will offer a Crit Training Course. Riders meet at Summerside Industrial Park for 30 laps of training. Lap 10 and Lap 20 Sprint Points are awarded.
Point System
We offer training point standings as an additional way to encourage riders to develop their strength and conditioning. Training points are only awarded in Type C or Training Rides.
Each rider's top 4 road training rides, top 8 time trial rides, and top 3 crit rides are included for points. However, riders continue to garner points for improvement, PB's, sprints, and starts. This way, we are continuing to encourage riders to come out and improve themselves.
Points are awarded as following:
Rank at End of Ride
1st place = 50 points
2nd place = 45 points
3rd place = 40 points
4th place = 35 points
5th place = 30 points
6th place = 25 points
7th place = 20 points

20th place = 1 point
Starting
Riders earn 2 points for starting each event.
LYI (Last Year Improvement)
Awarded only to riders who rode the course any year previous and posted an improvement time on the course this year. The 10 points will only be awarded once per year as once a new PB has been set in the year, the next ride is no longer looking to better last year's time but this year's time.
PB (Personal Best - Improvement on Lifetime Personal Best
Awarded on a per course basis only on this year's stats; therefore, riders may earn 15 points if they better their time on the same course throughout each year.
Does not apply if you get a DNF then finish the next event.
Sprinting
Sprint Points (awarded at various locations on course). Every course except for the time trials have Sprint Points available to be won. Sprint points are usually located at equal distances apart. For example, in a 60 km road event, there will be two Sprint Point opportunities (one at 20 k and the other at 40 k). There needs to be atleast two starters for Sprint Points to be awarded. In the past, the number of placings available for sprint points depends on the number of riders; as of July 8, 2006, the top 8 placings will be awarded sprint points to encourage more riders to experience the opportunity of sprinting for points and developing sprint tactics in a training environment. Here is the breakdown:
As of July 8, 2006
